Find out what they'd rather you didn't know.

Redoing the roof. Buying a mattress. Your kid's retainers. Anything priced by someone who does it every day and knows that you don't. We work out what it should actually cost, then give you the words to pay that instead.

Start with what you're buying.

Three questions, and we will tell you exactly what to send us, what comes back, and what to say when you are standing in front of them. Free while we are in beta, because a person does the work by hand.

1What are you negotiating for?

Pick the closest thing. If a person quotes the price instead of a shelf label, we can usually price it.

Three receipts from our first twelve teardowns.

Every figure below is from a real quote a homeowner posted publicly. Nothing here is a customer result; we have not opened yet.

$9,600 vs $4,800

The identical heat pump, quoted by a big company and by an independent in the same market. The gap is commission and advertising, not copper.

−$6,000

A homeowner named a competing bid. The company matched it on the spot. Money that moves in one sentence was never a cost.

$300 vs $30/lb

Refrigerant quoted at $300 a pound against about $30 sourced. Even granting the worst of the 2025 supply spike, that is three times past any legitimate cost, and it makes replacing the whole system feel like your idea.

How a price check works

The method is the same whether it's a roof, a mattress or a treatment plan: whatever the seller handed you goes in, evidence comes out, and you get the words to negotiate with. While we're in beta a person does this by hand for you, usually within a day.

Send the quote

A written quote, a price tag, a treatment plan, or just a model number. We pull out every line, every model number and every red flag, and any bundled lump sum gets flagged on sight.

The Hawkeye prices it

Your number goes against what the thing actually costs: wholesale prices, fair labour for your area, and what the same item sells for elsewhere. The verdict comes back in plain dollars, each benchmark carrying its source and date.

The Chisel Kit closes it

The emails written for you, each counter-move read as it lands, and a walk-away number you can actually hold. Tracked until you sign.

The range they hope you never see.

Every job has a band that informed buyers actually close inside. We build it from wholesale costs and verified purchases — never from the prices contractors open with. Your quote gets judged against it, and so does your final deal.

We won't call a number realistic just to make you feel good. A band you can trust is the entire product. the calibration rule, ChiselHawk engine spec

Anywhere the seller knows more than you do.

Big, rare purchases where a person quotes the price instead of a shelf label. You do this once a decade and they do it every day. While we're in beta we will take a run at any of these by hand, and we are deepest where our benchmark data is deepest.

Mattresses, appliances and furniture, where the same build wears five different names so that it cannot be price-matched. Photograph the tag and we will find its twins.

Implants, braces, retainers and LASIK. We look at cash-pay prices and prepay discounts only, and never comment on the treatment itself.

We're paid by buyers, never by sellers.

We take no money from contractors, retailers or clinics — no partnerships, no lead selling, no affiliate fees. When a vendor offers, the answer is no, because the moment we take it there is nothing left to sell you. When your price turns out to be fair we say so plainly, as we did for half of our founding twelve. And where our data runs thin the range widens and tells you, rather than inventing a wholesale figure to look clever.
